As a continent, Africa is one of the youngest with a median age of 19. This youthful force is both restless and energetic, as well as tech-savvy and ambitious. The lack of legacy infrastructure (such as landline phones or large power grids), is both a curse and a blessing; some African cities have leapfrogged to advanced logistics like mobile-first phones and decentralized solutions propelling innovation forward, while others don't even have basic stable infrastructure to access the internet and feel left behind. Nevertheless, Africa as a whole is charging forward with impressive scale and momentum to not only improve daily life for its own people, but to also become a serious player in the future of global AI and robotics.

Africa's AI and robotics companies cover the continent's multi-faceted identity, from the Sahara Desert dunes where autonomous solar powered drones scan and detail shifting patterns in the sand to protect highways and settlements, to cobalt mines in Southern Africa where semi autonomous drilling rigs and exoskeleton assisted workers reduce physical human labor, to Serengeti National Park's efforts to combat poaching using computer vision camera traps to identify individual elephants and rhinos using pattern recognition models, to Lagos where fintech agencies use machine learning tools to analyze mobile transaction histories, to offshore oil platforms in the Gulf of Guinea where underwater inspection robots conduct ultrasonic hull scans, and finally to safari lodges where autonomous electric vehicles use lidar and terrain AI to navigate conservation zones.
